Zambia’s power sector at a glance

Electricity supply is dominated by large hydro and evolving additions (solar, thermal peaking, storage pilots). The national utility ZESCO Limited typically acts as off-taker under PPAs for independent power. The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) licenses generation and approves tariffs within its mandate. The Ministry of Energy leads policy and sector planning.

What a PPA is

A Power Purchase Agreement defines how electricity is sold from a generator to the buyer: price rules, duration, dispatch expectations, and how major risks (fuel, currency, curtailment, payment security) are allocated. Summaries on this portal do not replace legal advice or the full contract text.
